CAT

About CAT:

Common Admission Test (CAT) is a computer based standardized test for admission to graduate management programs. The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) conducts this exam and selects the eligible candidates for their Management curses based on their score in the test. Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc) also use the scores obtained by a candidate in CAT as their merit basis. 

100 MCQs are to be answered by a candidate in 3 hours. The questions are divided into Quantitative Aptitude, Data Interpretation, Data Sufficiency, Verbal Ability, Reading Comprehension, Logical Reasoning, and Analytical reasoning sections. An aspirant can score in the gradient of -100 to 300. The score achieved would be valid for 1 year.

In 2019 approximately 2, 09,930 candidates appeared for CAT. Registration for 2020 will start in the first week of August.

APPLICATION FORM:

Exam Fee for General category students is ₹ 1900.

Exam fee for reserved category students is ₹ 950.

Candidates can provide up to 4 city preferences for test city allocation, they will be allotted in one of the chosen cities accordingly.

 ELIGIBILITY:

Candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree with minimum of 50% or equal CGPA (45% for SCs/STs /PWD/Differently abled) from a recognized university or boards.

Competitors appearing/ awaiting results for their Final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination are eligible to appear for the exam.

CAT COUNSELLING:

There is no provision of CAT counselling. The only basis for admission to IIMs and other b-schools through CAT score is Written Ability Test (WAT) or Group Discussion (GD) & Personal Interview (PI)

(NOTE: Because of COVID-19 pandemic certain IIMs have decided to conduct online GD/PI rounds. IIM Lucknow, Kozikode, and Indore have postponed their interview schedule along with FMS Delhi and XIME Bangalore.)

  • Based on their CAT result, academic background, work experience and diversity ratio a Candidate is selected for the pre-admission rounds of IIMs.
  • The score card for CAT 2019 can be accessed from the official website.
  • 10th third generation IIMs will conduct a common written ability test (WAP) and a personal interview (PI) by Common admission Process (CAP).
  • Based on a cumulative score of the candidate’s academic profile, work experience, and diversity (gender/ academic) the final selection for all ten IIMs is made.
  • IIMs send emails to the qualifying candidates for GD-PI & WAT. 
  • For next step candidate need to report at the allocated college on the date mentioned.
  • After the verification process a candidate is required to lock themselves a seat via online mode by visiting the official website. After the conformation of the seat, the candidate is needed to submit the seat allotment order to the allocated institution.
